2006 NATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY CAMPAIGN
The 2006
National Photography Campaign began on March 10. The theme was
Endemic Species and
Subspecies of
Taiwan.
The
contest was open to anyone; each photographer was allowed to
submit an unlimited number of entries. No manipulation of the
images (e.g., Photoshop, etc.) was permitted.
The
contest was sponsored by Chinese Petroleum Corporation (donation
of NT$150,000) and Yuan Yu Industry Co. Ltd. (donation of 13
Olympus cameras, value NT$136,000). The Taiwan International
Birding Association organized the campaign.
Judging
took place May 20, at Yuan Yu Industries Co. Ltd. Education Room,
Taipei. Judges were: Professor Ching-Hsia Chen, Professor Ping-Du
Lee, Wen-Hsin Huang, K. K. Kuo, Chin-Hsin Lee and Jo Ann MacKenzie.
There
were 489 entries; 415 digital images and 74, 35mm slides.
Grand
prize winners were:
1st: “Mikado Pheasant in
Snow” by Chung-Han Wu
2nd: “Swinhoe’s Pheasant”
by Wen-You Xie
3rd: “Yellow Tit” by
Shi-Ming Chen
First
prize: Bird carving (Formosan Magpie by Lin-Ming
Huang, Nature Wood Carving); NT$30,000; Olympus
digital camera (DSLR E330 W/: EZ1445 lens, value NT$36,500).
Second Prize: Bird carving (Yellow
Tit by Lin-Ming Huang,
Nature Wood
Carving); NT$20,000;
Olympus digital camera (u720SW, value NT$13,900).
Third
Prize: Bird carving(Black-browed
Barbet by Lin-Ming Huang,
Nature Wood
Carving); NT$10,000;
Olympus digital camera (SP-500UZ, value NT$11,900).
The
prizes were awarded on June 2, at the
Travel
Service Center, Tourism Bureau, Taipei.

Taiwan’s
magnificent national bird stands regally in its high
mountain habitat on a snowy day. The contrast between the
deep blue of the bird’s plumage and the white snow is
striking. The well-composed image is technically correct,
and captures the subject in an alert, watchful stance.

生態背景寫實、豐富，影像品質清晰亮麗，主題明顯，鳥相優良，表現出藍腹鷴華貴的氣質。
The
beautiful male Swinhoe’s Pheasant is seen in the undergrowth
of its mountain forest habitat. The image quality is
excellent; sharp and rich.

The
Yellow Tit was captured in song. Though the living bird is
